WOMENS INSTITUTE SCRAPBOOK 1965
A year in Harvington

This substantial scrapbook was created by Hilda Brazier for the Harvington group of the Womens Institute and intended to cover a year in the life in the village of Harvington.

The album, stored in a suitcase in the village hall, was handed to us (Joy & Julian Rawes) in late 2018 by a member of the Pheonix group in the hope of preserving it for the future. In circa 2015 the members had decided to disband the long-established Harvington Womens Institute and form 'The Pheonix Group'.

This beautifully arranged album was created by Hilda Brazier for the year 1965 and as the following images shew it is a fine piece of work covering almost every aspect of the village. The main body is arranged from January to December with extra sections on various aspects of village life, the whole covering over eighty pages.

Hilda lived at The Close in Station Road and was a water-colour artist and the daughter of Samuel Towers, an accomplished artist, see details of his life under 'Firbank' in the Houses section and under 'Families'. What is very pleasing is that Hilda included a number of her own paintings.

The album has been photographed and scanned to created digital images and incorporated into the website so that all can view it. In due course it is hoped that the album will be housed in the Worcestershire Record Office.
