ELECTORAL

ROLLS

FOR

HARVINGTON

Democracy, the right to vote, where does one start? One starts with a list of those who one deems eligible to vote and that can change over time. Every so often a voters list is produced, which most people have little interest in and rarely, if ever, consult. These 'Electoral Rolls' do however record owners and occupiers and this is important to historians. It is not immediately clear why someone appears on a list covering Harvington as owning land in Harvington but lives in say Fladbury and presumably has a right to vote there? This page does not attempt to understand the system but simply make available these various lists.

At present Ancestry.com is the main source. Making these lists available will be a slow process, the first being the Electoral Roll for 1900-1901.
